Arjun Kapoor’s little sister Anshula Kapoor turns a year older today and the Namaste England actor, like every year, has the sweetest wish for her.

Sharing a family photo from Singapore featuring father Boney Kapoor and his sisters, Abshula, Janhvi, and Khushi Kapoor, Arjun wrote, “Happy birthday Ansh… ur an extension of me, the best part of me & u always shall be the world to me… #happybirthdayanshula #bestsisterever #growinguptoofast.” He also shared another photo of Anshula and captioned it as “Enthusiastic Birthday Girl”.

While Arjun has joined Anshula, Khushi and Janhvi in Singapore only after Christmas, the three sisters have been enjoying a great time in the island city for quite some time now. Anshula has even shared a glimpse of all the fun she had with Janhvi and Khushi in her birthday week. A recent video on her Instagram account had her and Khushi “Taking a day off from adulting!” She also shared a photo where she was seen twinning with Dhadak actor Janhvi. “M I N E 💕 #BirthdayWeek,” read the caption of the photo.

Katrina Kaif opts out of Remo D'Souza's upcoming dance film.

Katrina Kaif and Varun Dhawan were announced as the lead stars of Remo D’Souza’s dance film. Katrina has now opted out of the project as her dates for the film are clashing with Salman Khan starrer Bharat, which she is currently shooting for.

Katrina Kaif, who was all set to team up for the first time with Varun Dhawan for a dance film, to be directed by Remo D’Souza, Saturday has now opted out of the project due to date issues.

The film to be produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series is touted to be India’s biggest dance film.

Along with Varun Dhawan, the yet-to-be-titled film also features actor-choreographer-director Prabhudeva, Dharmesh Yelande, Raghav Juyal, and Punit Pathak. The film was scheduled to release on November 8, 2019.

“Katrina Kaif had to opt out of Remo D’Souza’s upcoming dance film owing to her hectic schedule for Bharat. Katrina has always been a thorough professional. She decided to step out of the film as her dates were clashing with Bharat, which she is currently shooting for,” read a statement from Katrina’s spokesperson.

Bharat, an official remake of the Korean film An Ode To My Father, will depict the history of India through the life of an ordinary man. Reportedly, Salman Khan will be sporting five different looks, spanning over 60 years. The film is being directed by Ali Abbas Zafar who has earlier collaborated with Salman on Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai.

While the beginning of 2019 will see the release of Anupam Kher starrer The Accidental Prime Minister (January 11), which is based on the memoir of the same name by Sanjaya Baru, and Anil Kapoor-Sonam Kapoor’s Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga (February 1), which is inspired by PG Wodehouse’s Damsel in Distress; the recipe of adapting manuscripts was strong in 2018 as well.

While the lesser-known Daas Dev was based on Sarat Chandra Chatterjee’s classic Bengali novel Devdas, the Danny Denzogpa and Adil Hussain film Bioscopwala took its inspiration from Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s Kabuliwala. In the film, the story of Kabuliwala is taken forward and is placed from the 19th century into the 1980s Taliban regime.

However, the biggest successes that Bollywood was able to churn this year based on book adaptations included the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Padmaavat, Akshay’s PadMan and Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal film Raazi.

Padmaavat, which courted numerous controversies owing to its source, was said to be inspired from the epic poem of Padmavat, authored by Malik Muhammad Jayasi. PadMan was based on the short story of The Sanitary Man of Sacred Land which appeared in Twinkle Khanna’s book The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad, which in turn itself was inspired by the life and times of social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham. On the other hand, Meghna Gulzar directorial Raazi was based on the book Calling Sehmat by Harinder Sikka.

Ranveer Singh starrer Simmba is being applauded by the audience for being an entertainer. True to Rohit Shetty’s style, the cop drama is being called massy and is gaining all the love. Simmba belongs to the same genre as Shetty’s Ajay Devgn film Singham and such movies are usually enjoyed in a theater that has an excited audience who laughs and cheers in unison.

Alongside Ranveer, the film also stars Sara Ali Khan and Sonu Sood in key roles. From what we have seen in the trailer, we know that there is going to be an appearance by Devgn’s Singham as well.

But in case you can’t catch Simmba at the theaters, the film’s streaming partner will soon make it available for online viewing. The film’s official streaming partner is Zee5, as mentioned in the opening titles, and though the makers have not declared when the film will be out on the streaming service, we are hoping they will make an announcement soon enough. Even those who catch the film at theaters can enjoy it again on Zee5.

Simmba has received mixed reviews from the critics but Ranveer Singh’s performance has received praise from all quarters. The Indian Express’ critic Shubhra Gupta gave the film two stars in her review and wrote, “The only reason to watch Simmba then, is Ranveer Singh. In his sharp moochh sticking up at both ends, shiny bronzed face, broad shoulders filling out, eventually, the khakee uniform, Singh is Simmba. Striding into cop stations, wading into ‘goondas’, losing his heart to the girl across the road Shagun (Ali Khan), Singh is fully alive to the moment, knowing that he is working in a template, aware that he has to keep breaking out.”

The wildcard contestant has had an eventful journey on the show. Known for being opinionated and straightforward, Surbhi also drew a lot of criticism over her aggressive and abusive personality. Post her elimination, the ex-Roadies sat down with indianexpress.com for an exclusive chat.

Talking about her eviction, Surbhi said, “I really never expected to be eliminated from Bigg Boss, being just inches away from the finale. To be honest, I really saw myself as the winner. I had all the aspects of a champion, but you can’t win over destiny. So I’ll take this on my stride and continue to work hard.”

A lot has been said about Surbhi projecting a fake personality in the show. Sharing her side of the story, she said, “Surbhi is a girl who believes in expressing herself. She is strong and a powerhouse, that has been well proved in the show. Also, I may have been criticized for it, but I believe in always speaking the truth. In an exclusive chat with indianexpress.com, Ranveer Singh talks about his experience of working with Rohit Shetty, and how rewarding 2018 has been.

Remarking that Shetty creates a larger than life world in his films, the actor said, “I think it is correct to say that Rohit Shetty creates a larger than life world in his films. Everything in a Rohit Shetty film is big. You associate largeness, scale, grandeur, visual spectacle, an event film with Rohit Shetty. He is a director who directs large canvas films that are meant for the big screen. This man doesn’t know any other way. So, his films are big.”

With being a big canvas director, Ranveer Singh also thinks that Rohit Shetty knows his trade too well. He said, “I also think he knows the trade because he is a bonafide big-screen director. He is the one who gets the audience to the seats. He is the one who is shot in the arm when the footfall is falling. So, yes, as an audience and an actor who has collaborated with him, I appreciate him in every way. Even as a man, he is a big guy with a big heart. He is such an admirable man and I have a tremendous amount of love and respect for him.”

After opening the year 2018 with a super hit Padmaavat, Ranveer is excited for Simmba and wishes that it does well. Talking about his fulfilling year, he said, “Well it could be a landmark year for me if God willing, touch wood. And I hope Simmba does really really well. Then I would have notched a massive year. The joy I get out of the rewards, I can’t compare it with the joy that I get out of the process itself. The creative process of shooting Gully Boy and Simmba this year, that’s the actual reward for me. What more could I have asked for? How much more could I be blessed? I get to do what I love to do for a living. I get to go to a film set every morning and perform as an actor and collaborate with the finest talents around. These are the rewards. this is something that I look forward to. Of course, it is great when these films go on to become blockbusters. It is fantastic, and it is important, but the process is truly the reward that I seek.”

After Zero's debacle, a look at the box office performance of SRK's recent films.

It’s been a while since Shah Rukh Khan has delivered a blockbuster. From Jab Harry Met Sejal, Raees, Fan to Dear Zindagi, all have made quite a dent in his box office appeal. Zero, an Aanand L Rai directorial, also had a dismal first week.

The king of romance fails to realize that his mushy romantic outings do not have as many takers as they had in the past. In fact, he pulled more people to the theaters with the action-thriller Don 2 as compared to a slice of life film Jab Harry Met Sejal. The lifetime collection of Don 2 in India stands at Rs 106.71 crore and JHMS earned only Rs 64.33 crore even after running in theaters for six weeks.

Zero, an Aanand L Rai directorial, had a dismal first week. It opened with a collection of Rs 20.14 crore on Friday which dropped to Rs 18.22 crore on Saturday. The film picked up again on Sunday by minting Rs 20.71 crore only to see a drastic fall on its first weekday. On Monday, the Shah Rukh starrer managed to add only Rs 9.50 crore to its kitty and even after five days of its release, the film failed to touch the Rs 100 crore mark. The film’s collection now stands at Rs 81.32 crore.
